What is whiter than snow?

"Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean ; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." -Psalm 51:7

If you aren't familiar with Psalm 51, it was written by David after he committed adultery with Bathsheba. This Psalm still boggles my mind when I think about what David is saying and asking of God after doing something, something so wrong. My question is what is whiter than snow? I know you could just blow it off and say it is figurative, but don't. When I think about snow especially on a bright sunny day, there is nothing brighter, I have wondered what could be whiter.

Think again about the snow on a sunny day, it glisten and almost glows. That is the answer to the question. Light - light is the only thing brighter than white. Now connect Psalm 51:7 with 2nd Corinthians 3:18, "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit." Now we can see how we can be whiter than snow. Allowing the Spirit to transform us, becoming more and more like Jesus, reflecting His glory and Himself, like a mirror.

This can only be done as we focus on God, He is the focus, it is not about us, it is about Him. We can be cleansed whiter than snow through the blood of Jesus, He is transforming us into His image. Pray that we continually look more and more like Jesus Christ, as a light in this world.

Be a mirror today.
