Holy Spirit, direct me how to walk and keep my paths pure.

How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your Word. With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander from Your commandments. Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You. Blessed are You, O LORD ; Teach me Your statutes. -Psalm 119:9-12

How can we keep our lives pure? Keep it according to your Word. Two things has changed my life in the area of sin and purity. I used to try to fight it, I would try to wrestle myself and my thoughts to try to win. Every time I focused on the sin and tried to fight it head on I lose, maybe not immediately but eventually I lose.

My entire approach has changed. Rather than facing sin and trying to fight it, I simply turn. Rather than focusing on sin, I pull out the Bible and start reading, or get up and go somewhere else and listen to some worship music, or stop and pray. If we focus on God and continue moving forward the sin that so easily entangles falls to the waste side. The other thing that will destroy sin is bringing it to the light. When you are struggling with sin, call your closest friend(s) and tell him. Bring sin into the light, and confessing it to a friend will kill it on the spot.

Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. -Hebrews 12:1b-2

Let us stop trying to manage sin, fight sin or hide sin. Let us bring it to the light by telling a friend, and turn and focus on the perfecter of the faith. Then we can keep our paths pure.
