Strengthen me and make me stand firm, so I can be a light.

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." -Matthew 5:14-16

A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Think about that. Don't just read over it because you have heard it many times before. We are being compared to a literal city on a literal hill. This city can't hide, it can't blend in. The only way the city could be hidden, is if the entire city was moved to a different place that it was not originally placed.

Let us trust in the sovernity of God, knowing He placed us where we are. From the position of knowledge of His control, let us rest and live. Let's stop trying to hide. He has established us and lives in us right where we are. Rather than trying to hide and blend in with the world, let's step up, stand out, and step out and be light, a light of a Jesus Christ living in and through us. A light that causes others to praise God, as they see Him working through us in our good works. Done naturally, as God uses us as His hands, feet and voice.

Let us pray: Strengthen me and make me stand firm, so I can be a light.
