"ANTI-DEVO" - Day 1 - Don't need to read the Bible

What if I told you there was no command to read your bible regularly, that we hear so often?

It's true, there is not a single reference that supports this idea, that we converted into (almost) law. On top of this, there is actually a verse that could actually argue the opposite, that we can read scripture and completely missing the point.

"You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life" - John 5:39a

What do you think about that? Jesus is literally addressing the fact that potentially we could read the Bible too much. Jesus continues and says, "These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life" (Jn 5:39b-40). If we are not finding life when we read the Bible, we are missing the point. If we are only gaining more information, we are missing the point. If we are not following Jesus more after reading, we are missing the point.

Read James 1:22-25 which clearly exposes how we should not miss the point.

As for reading the Bible, there is no command, but we do have examples of people examining scripture in eagerness (Acts 17:11), not something they needed to do, but wanted to do.
